It is now clear that Jörnträhus together with Contractor, our parent company, has won the tender to build 70 rental apartments for the Kvarnbacken project in Kåge. For Jörnträhus, this is the largest housing project that they have delivered to date. The type of house to be built is a new concept house from Jörnträhus where the entrance to the apartments will be via loft corridors. Which is a cost-effective way to build that, among other things, provides great flexibility in the size of apartments.
- We are of course proud to be able to contribute to such a large deal for our group parent Contractor but also to contribute to Skellefteå's need for more housing. It is also extremely fun that we get to be involved in the first project in a long time where Skebo builds homes entirely in wood, says Mikael Lindberg, CEO of Jörnträhus.
Below is Skebo's press release in full.
Skebo is investing in new production in Kåge, about 13 kilometres north of central Skellefteå. 70 apartments are being built on the Kvarnbacken block right by the Kåge River.
- "Skellefteå is undergoing a major expansion and it feels fantastic to break ground. It is also pleasing to note how the demand for housing outside the centre of Skellefteå has grown," says Skebo's Chairman of the Board Harriet Classon.
Contractor won the turnkey contract, worth SEK 84 million, and design work has started.
- "We are very happy about this order and that we can be part of Skebo's journey. The investment is fully in line with our ambition to build a vibrant Norrland," says Kurt Nyström, CEO of Contractor Skellefteå.
The new houses on the Kvarnbacken block will have wooden walls and floors. They are being built in Jörn by Jörnträhus, which is part of the Contractor Group.
- The houses in Jörn are built with raw materials from the region and with local expertise. For our part, it is also a great vote of confidence that Skebo gives us. It strengthens both our staff and our partners in this construction project," says Kurt Nyström.
The Kvarnbacken block is in a scenic location close to both the Kåge River and the school, preschool and centre of Kåge. Skebo's current property on Ulriksgatan was built in 1967. It is now being demolished and instead six two-storey terraced houses are being built, which will contain a total of 70 apartments of between one and three rooms and kitchens with areas ranging from 31 to 69 square metres.
- "We are building a mix of flats that we believe will respond well to the needs we see. They will be really nice houses to live in and also in a really nice location in Kåge," says Åsa Andersson.
The existing building will be demolished in June and the aim is to pour the concrete slabs for the new houses before winter.
